Late Model Division

Please read the general rules in addition to these division specific rules.  Some duplication and/or discrepancies may arise and if so you are asked to contact track officials for an official ruling.

 

Please note any driver not meeting the specifications listed below WILL NOT be permitted to compete in this division.

There may be a one-week grace period for some specifications at the discretion of tech officials.

CAR SPECIFICATIONS

Generally open competition for Late Model stock cars meeting the following:

No ground effect devices or movable skirts along the sides of the car.  Body must meet the dimensions shown elsewhere in these rules.  Fiberglass roof allowed.  Pressure relief area at the rear of car must be enclosed and exted a minimum of 12” below the deck lid and must be sealed on the top and sides; must be straight up and down and must be ridged.  Radiator overflow catch cam mandatory.  NO ANTI-FREEZE!!!

** NOTE ** Engine interchange permitted.  Cast iron blocks only.  Engine compression not limited.  One two-barrel carburetor allowed with the appropriate weights mentioned below.  650 max carburetor for crate engine cars.  Turbos not allowed.  No nitrous oxide equipment.  Mufflers required.  Must be self-starting and must have reverse gear.  No electronic traction control devices including anti-lock brakes.  No cockpit adjustable suspensions other than break bias.  Remote reservoir shocks are not allowed.  Rear end optional.

 

 

APPEARANCE

Overall paint, lettering, general appearance, neatness, construction, safety features, innovation etc., are all subject to technical inspection.  Any dark colored car must have contrasting bright colored pressure relief area.

 

 

MINIMUM WEIGHTS

The weight will be measured in pounds with the car race ready including the driver in the car and after the feature race.  Cars with stock appearing nose and 72” rear quarter panel width are to weigh 2700 lbs with driver after feature if using a 2 bbl carburetor or 2900 lbs if running a 4 bbl carburetor.  There is no minimum weight or left-side / right-side % for cars using the crate motors.  ** All template bodied cars are to receive a 50 lb weight break **

Cars running V-6 engines will have same weight rule and same engine location.  Maximum of 60% left side weight is allowed with driver in the car.  Any weight added behind the rear axle gear must be a minimum of 8” high.  Other added weight must not extend below the main frame rail.   

 

 

CAR SAFETY FEATURES

GENERAL SAFETY FEATURES COMMON TO LATE MODEL STOCK CAR RACING MUST BE INSTALLED INCUDING:

Fuel cells / proper fuel line construction and placement of fuel cell.  Must be securely mounted between frame rail and adequately protected from behind and below by .090” wall tubing or better.  Four metal straps over the top of the fuel cell are recommended.  If a remote fueling port is installed, a safety shutoff must be also installed.  Fuel cell must be a minimum of 8” from ground.  Fuel type optional except to nitrous oxide or alcohol.  Main frame rail must be at least 8” in circumference.  2x2 frame rails allowed from A-frame forward and from rear end back.  The driver’s seat must be aluminum racing type and properly mounted.  Driver must have a clear view horizontally (a full 180 degrees from his sitting position forward)  Headrest must be located behind driver’s head mid-helmet height.  Roll cars beside drivers helmet must be well padded, and with driver seated normally in place, helmet must clear all roll bars by 3”.  Basic drivers cage and door protection required with at least .090” wall, 1 ½ O.D. or better tubing, gusseted with high penetration welds throughout.  NO REDUCTION!!  At least one triangular brace in the front of the lower front left rollbar post must be installed to protect the driver’s feet and legs.  Side reflector plate mandatory from the rear panel to the front firewall 10” high and 1/8” thickness minimum.  Side window opening must be large enough for safety crew members to enter or exit; minimum opening allowed is 13” x 22”.  Windshield clip and braces recommended.  Window nets are mandatory.  Transmissions and rear end plugs should be wired.  ONE mirror allowed.  Weight may be added to the car but must be securely fastened with min ½” bolts and must be painted white and include car number on them. 

FRONT AND REAR TOW HOOKS OR CHAINS ARE REQUIRED!!

SAFETY / HARNESS

A full five-point restraint system is required including a 3” wide seat belt, tow over the shoulder straps (recommended 3” wide) and crotch straps.  Belts must be date coded within the past five (5) years.  Mounting is subject to approval.

 

 

FIRE EXTINGUISHER / SAFETY

Fire extinguisher is mandatory with easy access and identification for the safety crew.  On board fire extinguisher systems are strongly recommended with 1301 Halon strongly recommended in extinguisher.  Metal firewalls and floorboards a must.  The kill switch must be marked and battery cover required.  Added wight must be adequately secured and painted white.

 

 

DRIVE SHAFT

Drive shaft tubing hoop mandatory.

 

 

MUFFLERS

Mufflers are mandatory!!  Decibel reading to be checked at tracks discretion.  100 decibels or less measure at 100 ft racing distance.

 

 

WHEELS

Rims 10” maximum width, steel only.  No carbon fiber brakes or titanium brake rotors. 

 

 

TIRES

Tires will be American Racer 21(Left Side) / 31 (Right Side (10" slicks) or the 285 series (10" tread).  The tire durometer # is TO BE ANNOUNCED.  Any driver found with tire(s) under the announced number will be disqualified for that event and/or evening and the tires may be confiscated by the track for further examination. 

NO SOAKING OF ANY KIND!! 

 

 

WINDSHIELD

Full front and rear windshields are required.  Rear window must be stock appearing.

 

 

ENGINE

4” maximum engine set back for all engines measured at the center of the treads #1 spark plug in relation to ball joint centerline.  Cast iron heads; 5” set back.

Option of Stock 4412 Holly carburetor or, 4 bbl carburetor with specific weight penalties as noted above.  Must fit gauge.

 

 

ROOF

Roof must carry a relatively flat contour throughout 45” minimum roof height measured as center of roof 24” back from the top edge of windshield.  No radical offsets at roof.  This will be at the discretion of tech personnel.

 

BUMPERS

Rear bumper ends must be rounded with no sharp corners.
